Bamunu Arachchi Mahipala is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka. Gifted with an entrepreneurial talent, he started his own business enterprise soon after graduation and created a diversified organization, which generates an annual turnover in excess of USD 100 million today.
Though he is still the Chairman of his company, BAM Holdings (Pvt) Ltd, he is now partly retired, spending most of his time exploring and photographing the wild life.Since 2001, Mr Mahipala, functions as the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Madagascar in Sri Lanka. Affectionately known as Mahi to his family and friends, he is a renowned philanthropist in Sri Lanka.
Among his many philanthropic projects, he has made a major financial contribution to develop and modernize a government hospital in his hometown, Homagama, in the outskirts of Colombo. He has built its infrastructure costing over USD 2 million, which provides free modern healthcare to the local population. He is also closely associated with many voluntary social organizations in Sri Lanka.
